2013,

It’s not you, it’s me.

2013 has seen some pretty incredible events. My son Weston was born on July 2nd. I went skydiving. My wife and I bought our first house (or, if you’re Dave Ramsey, we didn’t). I guess there were some other important events that happened in the world as well. I don’t remember.

WadeBearden.com launched in May to the mild amusement of people everywhere. To celebrate my blog’s first New Years celebration, I thought it would be fitting to do a recap of my ten most popular posts. Continue Reading…

“Kill your darlings.”

The one piece of advice standing between The Desolation of Smaug being a good film and The Desolation of Smaug being a great film. Continue Reading…

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is a laugh-out-loud, family romp, that will make even the biggest of cynics grin. It’s all hugs and giggles as Kevin McCallister runs around New York, evading sleuthing hotel clerks and putting a damper on a pair of bumbling crooks looking to rob a toy store on Christmas Eve. Catching Fire is a Terrible Teen Movie

I grew up in a family of eight. I competed in the Hunger Games every time dinner was served. And, as you can tell from my 6’1, 150 pound frame, the odds were never in my favor. When my parents walked in with fast food, my brothers descended on our kitchen table like it was an arena cornucopia. Continue Reading…

A good film is like cottage cheese. Even when it’s spoiled, there’s still much to enjoy. Saying this, I do my best to never give away any important movie plot points on my blog. That is unless it’s The Notebook. I have no qualms telling you THEY BOTH DIE AT THE END. Continue Reading…

THE WAY, WAY BACK

The Way Way Back came out on DVD and BluRay this past Tuesday. I loved this film. It’s about growing up, finding purpose, and learning to believe in yourself. Honestly, The Way Way Back makes me want to be a better mentor. It’s my movie pick of the week, so check it out!

10 Things That Make Gravity Awesome

I apologize for just now hopping on the Gravity ship. I saw the new film from Alfonso Cuarón two weeks after it opened, making me feel like the kid who missed a weekend party because of his chess tournament.

Before you throw your stones, I have to remind you that I am the father of a 3 1/2 month old. So don’t blame me. Blame the baby. Continue Reading…

Daniel Craig-haters

Fans almost revolted when they heard Ben Affleck was set to play Batman in the upcoming Superman crossover film. The outcry snowballed into a mass movement that saw petitions signed and sent out around the country. One disgruntled individual actually submitted a petition to the White House, asking the government to make it illegal for Ben Affleck to play Batman, or any other superhero, for 200 years. Continue Reading…

prisoners-review-jackman-gyllenhaal

I attended a late-night screening of Prisoners alone last week. Usually, when I leave a movie by myself after one in the morning, I expect two things. One, I look like a creep walking to my car. Two, I am fairly exhausted. After Prisoners, only one of those scenarios played out, and it wasn’t the latter. Continue Reading…
